Why you need to get a Prenatal Massage Stat?

Let me start by saying I am the owner of Maternal Massage and More so, YES I am biased! However, after being in business for 18 years, I myself am pregnant and now finally get to experience what my clients do daily — prenatal massage.

As a massage therapist I am super picky about the massages I get, and fortunately I have a great team at Maternal Massage and More.  I remember hiring them, training them and teaching them along the way. I am so grateful to have them at my fingertips during my pregnancy.  We use the bodycushion® system where pregnant clients are able to lie comfortably and safely on their belly. This has been my tag line for 18 years.

I can honestly say I was beyond impressed by how comfortable they are. My clients used to tell me all the time, “I want to take these things home.” and  “You should rent them out by the hour.” Now, I know exactly what they are talking about.  Being able to lie on your belly when you cannot is heavenly. It also allows the therapist to get in deep and do work they might not be able to do when clients are lying on their side.  It is also just as amazing to be lying propped up on your back. I felt like a queen. I personally have not been sleeping well, and with the combination of the actual massage and the positioning, I was super comfortable and slept soundly for the first time in months. My therapist got out my kinks and there were plenty. She went deep but not too deep to the point of soreness. The oil smelled great and wasn’t greasy. I was relaxed, felt nurtured and my muscles melted under her hands. After she massaged my feet, I literally felt all the stress leave my body.  So far I have felt great during my pregnancy with little to no physical issues, and I can honestly attribute that to the regular prenatal massages I am getting.

While I am fortunate to not have these ailments as of yet, here are some of the benefits of prenatal massage:
  • reduces stress on weight-bearing joints
  • increases flexibility
  • eases constipation, gas and heartburn
  • reduces excess fluid retention
  • slows the process of varicose veins
  • relieves common discomforts
  • improved circulation
  • reduces muscle tension and headaches
  • reduced stress and anxiety
  • better sleep

One of my clients told me that the massage was better than diamonds! I think massage is great both mentally and physically. I had another client say she was able to focus clearer after getting a massage. With the holidays right around the corner, it is a great way to relax after shopping and cooking, escape from the family, plus it makes a wonderful gift.

Maternal Massage and More is open seven days a week and has offices in Soho and Park Slope. Gift certificates are available.
